Roadster returns to schools online

Every year the Safer Essex Roads Partnership (SERP) visits 60 secondary schools and colleges in Essex to deliver Roadster Events

Young drivers, here in Essex and nationally, are a high-risk casualty group on the roads due to their inexperience and behaviours we call the fatal four; speeding, drinking and drugs driving, seatbelts and distractions.

In an effort to reduce this, SERP provides schools and colleges with a programme for years 11 and 12. This starts with a powerful road safety drama in year 11 then onto Roadster an interactive day of driving-related presentations and activities for year 12.

Donna Bond, road safety technician, said: “Sadly, the global pandemic and social distancing rules will now make it difficult for the team to visit schools this term, but we are doing our best to make sure students don’t entirely miss out on these important messages.

“To that aim, we would like to offer an alternative online session that the students can undertake during PSHE.

“We work closely with First Car Academy and feel this an appropriate course for the students.”

FirstCar Academy is a free online course consisting of 14 short video-based modules. Taking around 60 minutes, everyone who completes it will automatically unlock various discounts on useful things like driving lessons and insurance.

This course will help students learn how to be a safer by equipping them with the knowledge to use the roads properly, plan journeys and look after their car.
