Calling on all young riders – do you want to be an even better rider?

The Safer Essex Roads Partnership, (SERP) has produced a virtual reality film to help young powered-two-wheeler riders stay safe on the roads.

The eight minute training-style video, which is linked to our Street Spirit young rider campaign, focuses on the three main areas for crashes involving young riders – at roundabouts, at junctions and when filtering through traffic. The film gives practical advice on how to negotiate these more safely.

Andy Stroulger, P2W specialist for SERP, said: “We are really proud of this film which we believe to be the first of its kind – a film utilising virtual reality to provide essential rider skills training for young people.

“Motorcyclists and other powered-two-wheeler riders are particularly vulnerable on the roads. They make up just 0.8% of the traffic but are involved in 21% of all road traffic collisions

“In 2019, nearly 400 powered-two-wheeler riders were killed or injured on Essex roads. Of these, 37% were under between the ages of 16 and 25. This is why the Street Spirit campaign and our ongoing motorcycle safety activity is so important.”

The second version of the Street Spirit campaign will be launched in Autumn this year and will be announced on the SERP social media channels. Young riders will be given another chance to win one of two fantastic prize bikes.
