Baddow Hall Infant School is the first school in Essex to sign up to the Vision Zero Pledge

Vision Zero is the ambition to eliminate deaths and serious injuries on Essex roads by 2040. The Vision Zero pledge was launched in May and urges all road-users, including organisations and businesses, to commit to this important aspiration.

While road deaths and injuries have reduced across the county in recent years, on average, one person per week dies on Essex roads.

Today, Friday December 11, the Headteacher of Baddow Hall Infant School and the Year 2 school councillors promised their support for Vision Zero by signing the pledge.

Lesley Schlanker, Headteacher at Baddow Hall Infant School in Chelmsford, said: “I was delighted to be the first school in Essex to show our support by signing the Vision Zero pledge today.

“However we use the roads in Essex – whether we drive, walk, cycle or scoot – each and every one of us has an important role to play in sharing the road safely.

“All children deserve to travel to and from school without harm, and I urge individuals, organisations (including schools) and businesses to also show their commitment to this important aspiration.”

Caroline Churchouse, Communications Manager for SERP, said: “I’d like to thank Baddow Hall Infant School for being the first school in Essex to endorse our vision of zero deaths and serious injuries on Essex roads.

“Road death is not inevitable, and we really believe that together we can stop them from happening altogether.

“Our aspiration is to build an army of Vision Zero ambassadors made of individual road-users, organisations and businesses, who want to make a stand against road death and serious injury. The more people who help us lead this important social change, the better.”
